The Sounds of Earth ONE
Chart of Mars – Mars, named after the Roman god of war, has been observed for millennia. Its rusty red color reminded ancient astronomers of blood and battle.
With Mars being the battleground for future colonization, who better to rule than the Terminator himself? “Get to the rover!”
Mars is cold and dry, with temperatures dropping to -125°C (-195°F) at night. Its thin atmosphere offers little protection from radiation, and dust storms can last months. However, water ice exists beneath the surface, and evidence suggests Mars once had rivers and oceans.
NASA’s Perseverance, Curiosity, and Spirit rovers have found clay minerals, frozen water, and potential signs of past microbial life. If humans colonize Mars, it will likely be underground, using extracted ice for survival.
One of the driest places on Earth, this desert has landscapes eerily similar to Mars.
A trip to Mars takes 7-9 months. Colonists would need pressurized habitats, underground shelters, and oxygen generators.
Microbes from Earth’s driest and coldest regions, like Antarctic lichens, could survive in Martian conditions.
