The Sounds of Earth ONE
☀️ Mercury: The Swift MessengerChart of Mercury. Mercury has been known since ancient times and was named after the Roman god of speed due to its rapid movement across the sky. It orbits the Sun in just 88 days, making it the fastest planet in our solar system.
Who better to rule Mercury than the fastest man on Earth? Like the planet, Usain Bolt moves at blistering speeds, breaking records and dazzling audiences.
Living on Mercury would be a nightmare for most humans. The temperatures fluctuate wildly—so hot during the day (430°C/800°F) that lead would melt, yet freezing at night (-180°C/-290°F). There’s no atmosphere to shield against the Sun’s radiation, meaning anyone on the surface would need heavy protection just to survive.
NASA’s Mariner 10 and MESSENGER missions have mapped Mercury, revealing that it has water ice hidden in its shadowed craters. If we could mine and extract water, future bases might become possible. It’s also rich in iron and nickel, great for construction in space.
One of the hottest places on Earth, this region has searing temperatures, sulfuric landscapes, and no vegetation—much like Mercury’s surface.
A trip to Mercury takes 3.5-7 years. To survive, you’d need to live underground or build shielded structures to protect against heat and radiation.
Tardigrades (water bears) might survive for a short time, as they can endure extreme radiation and temperature swings.Chart of Mercury. Chart of Mercury. Chart of Mercury. Chart of Mercury.
