Chart of saturn. Saturn, the second-largest planet, was named after the Roman god of time and agriculture. It’s famous for its spectacular rings, made of ice and rock.
Who better to rule the most glamorous planet than the Rocketman himself? With dazzling rings and a royal presence, Saturn is the Las Vegas of the solar system.
Like Jupiter, Saturn has no solid surface. However, its lower gravity makes it more “gentle” than Jupiter. The rings are made of billions of tiny ice particles, stretching over 170,000 miles wide but only 30 feet thick.
The Cassini spacecraft orbited Saturn for 13 years, revealing that its largest moon, Titan, has lakes of liquid methane and a thick atmosphere.
The world’s largest salt flat, which reflects the sky like a mirror, resembles Saturn’s icy rings.
A trip to Saturn takes 6-7 years. Floating stations in its upper atmosphere could be possible.
